I make and upload gifs fandom related gifs. I'm interested in and will reblog anything to do with horses, dragons, cats, tall ships, fantasy literature, the age of sail and the European (esp. German) middle ages. |

Jack glanced about the harbour and saw boats converging upon the Caledonia from all the King’s ships; and the port-admiral’s barge had already put off from the shore. He smiled at Stephen, who gave him a bitter look, and said, ‘Lead on, Macbeth.’ Macbeth instantly sprang from the larboard gangway, where he had been standing by a tackle-fall, ready to get on with the ship’s urgent business the moment the ceremony was over. Standing before his Captain with his huge bare red bony splay feet brought neatly together he plucked off his blue bonnet and asked, ‘Wheer tu, sirr?’
‘No, no, Macbeth,’ said Jack, ‘I did not mean you; and in any case I should have said Macduff…’
‘Macduff, Macduff,’ the cry went through the ship. ‘Sawny Macduff to the quarterdeck at the double.’
‘Belay there,’ cried Jack. ‘Scrub it. No, no. My meaning is, the officers may go over the side as soon as they please.’

And though we be on the far side of the world, this ship is our home. This ship is England.

It’s often the case that a character will be mocked for seeming too prissy or obsessed with their appearance (for example, the pastel-coloured Naval officers in Pirates of the Caribbean), but I feel like the attitudes expressed in Master & Commander are far truer to life than that. These men aren’t trying to impress women (because there aren’t any), they aren’t really trying to impress each other (because there’s no privacy onboard ship, so everyone sees each other at their worst), and they certainly aren’t keeping up with a strict uniform code as in the modern military. It’s more like they’re just living up to a set of standards that don’t exist in modern society. — The costumes of Master & Commander, Part 2.

I’ve never felt any motherly feelings in my life. Then I watched Master & Commander.
